Rick knew that he had to bring the bad news rather sooner than later. It seemed inevitable. For over a month it had been his duty to keep an eye on the amount of remaining drinking water. It had been like the setting of the sun. At first it looked as though it wasn't declining at all but the closer it got to the bottom, the faster it seemed to go. He didn't want to leave the compound. Every time they got their hands on fresh water it meant they had to murder whoever owned it before them. Rick hated to admit it but they were good at it as well.

A great story.
Just shows what us humans will do for water.

Water seems almost as valuable as gold in some of these submissions. Nice one.

Hey Matt! So glad you joined in. Welcome to the Fictioneers.
I’m running late today, but I’ll get something done later.
Poor Rick. Not much of a choice there really – survival of the fittest.

Awesome realism. Water is more valuable than gold, and even more valuable than food. I dig the apocalyptic feel.

Dear Matt,
What a great first story. Hell, what a great story, period.
Your MC has found out the hard way what Robert Heinlein always said in his stories; “Peace is an extension of war by political means. Plenty of elbow room is pleasanter – and much safer.”
Well done and welcome to the party, pal. I hope we see more of you.
Aloha,
Doug
